COVID-19 and Mask Update for the week of 1/7-1/14/22

January 14, 2022

As a reminder the District will return to a mask optional environment as of January 15th throughout the District except on school buses as that is still a requirement from the CDC.

Dear Buckeye Local Schools Parents, Guardians, and Staff:

In an effort to keep everyone informed and up to date, Buckeye Local Schools will be sending COVID notifications to families when necessary. This notification will include new cases in all buildings for the time period of 1/7/2022 - 1/14/2022.

While we are required through an executive order issued by Governor DeWine and the Ohio Department of Health, we do believe it is best to transparently communicate with you while protecting the privacy of the person/persons involved. With respect to applicable HIPAA and FERPA laws, specific names of students or staff will never be shared in these notices.

We are working directly with county health officials to address this situation and complete the necessary contact tracing. All students that were a close contact have been notified.

New Cases

Over the past 7 days the District received notification that 10 students and 3 staff members have been reported as positive for COVID-19.  Below is a summary of the buildings affected. Please continue to monitor your student for symptoms and when present please do not send your student to school.

Case Details & Cumulative Totals

  • Cumulative totals since the start of school that have been reported

    • Positive COVID19 Staff = 40                  (Avg. 1.5 per week)

    • Positive COVID19 Students = 224         (Avg. 10 per week)

According to the Ohio Department of Health the best way not to be quarantined is to do one of two things: get the vaccination if eligible or wear a mask. Our numbers over the past week have been lower than previous weeks that followed previous Holidays and we appreciate the community supporting the mask requirement. As a reminder the District will return to a mask optional environment as of January 15th throughout the District except on school buses as that is still a requirement from the CDC. The mask requirement was meant to be temporary for two weeks throughout our school buildings to avoid a surge and we have completed those two weeks. However, we strongly suggest mask wearing especially for those who are unvaccinated.

There is nothing more important than the safety and health of our students, staff, and their families. We will continue to follow COVID-related safety procedures currently in place up to and including cleaning and disinfecting recommendations as set forth by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

It is important to remember that children are greatly influenced by the reactions of adults when facing difficult circumstances. I encourage everyone to remain calm and to be empathic and respectful to those affected.

We are grateful for the opportunity to serve you and your family, especially as we face this challenging situation together. Thank you for your partnership in protecting our students and staff and helping to prevent the spread of the virus.

Proud to be a Buck!
