Local Scholarships


For Buckeye HS Seniors and/or Medina County and Medina County
Career Center seniors, unless otherwise indicated, the applications for
these scholarships will be found in the scholarship application file in
the BHS guidance office. Many of these applications may be found on
the Buckeye High School website and downloaded from there. If you
have questions ask Mrs. Depew in the guidance office.
Most of these local scholarships will be awarded at the Buckeye High School
Class of 2008 Senior Awards Ceremony, Tuesday, May 20, 2008. In most
cases, the scholarships will be presented by the benefactor or a representative
of the benefactor. As has been the tradition in past years, seniors who apply
for the local scholarships are expected to be in attendance at this ceremony.


Three D Metals, Inc. Scholarship
A $1000 scholarship designated for a student majoring in a field which directly
benefits children: Teaching, childcare, pediatrics, or social work. Applicants
must have a grade point average of 3.0.
Deadline: April 30, 2008.


Patrick M. Pozderac Scholarship
Eligible Buckeye seniors must be participating in the Fine Arts program at
Buckeye High School. The applicant must be accepted at a college or
university with plans of majoring in the health care field. This may also include
social work, special education, or health care administration.
Deadline: April 30, 2008.


Letha E. House Scholarship
This scholarship is available to a Buckeye senior interested in Horticulture,
then a science related field.
Deadline: April 30, 2008.


Litchfield Scholarship, and, Vincent Yambrovich Engineering Scholarship
Open to residents of Litchfield only. Applications will be mailed to residents of
Litchfield.


Merle E. Rush VFW 5563 Scholarship
This scholarship given in honor of Merle E. Rush will be awarded to a Buckeye
senior who is planning on majoring in a physical science at an accredited
college or university. He/she should be planning a career in engineering,
chemistry or a related science. The applicant must demonstrate financial need
and have a high school grade point average of 3.0 This is a $1000 scholarship
to be presented at the Buckeye High School Awards Ceremony.

Kenneth and Helen Alexander Scholarship Fund
The Alexanders were lifelong residents of Medina County. They attended and
were graduates of York School District. Throughout their lives they always
supported the York and Buckeye Schools and attended many school functions.
Ken Alexander was a U. S. Marine and served his country with pride and
honor. He always attended the Veteran functions sponsored by the school
district. He was also a retired Rural Postal Carrier. Helen Alexander worked as
a bookkeeper for Medina County, was a business manager, and a home
keeper. Their scholarship fund is a gift from their hearts and represents the
love and commitment they had for their community and the Buckeye, York
School District. Although they had no children of their own, they enjoyed the
company and friendship of the young members of their neighborhood and
school.
Criteria: Each scholarship is valued at $2000 with 2 scholarships awarded
each year: the recipients will be one male and one female student:
The recipients must be seniors at Buckeye High School and reside in the
district; must have a 3.00 grade point average, must have participated in at
least one volunteer community service activity; must demonstrate financial
need; and the recipient must have been accepted at a college or university.
Deadline: April 30, 2008.


Oscar & Hildegard Thiele Scholarship
This scholarship is given to Buckeye seniors in remembrance of the parents of
Oscar and Hildegard Thiele who were always interested in education and knew
the value of it. A scholarship available to students with at least a 3.0 grade
point average, however, not available to students #1 and #2 in the class. An
interview is a requirement.
Charles Witenhafer Scholarship
This scholarship requires the recipient to be a graduate of Buckeye High
School, accepted at an institution of higher education in a legitimate field of
study, and recipients must demonstrate maturity and common sense.
Delores Chrien Memorial Scholarship
Scholarship criteria include a 2.5 grade point average, a good attitude and
work ethic. Delores Chrien was a teacher at Buckeye High School for 24 years,
spending her last 13 years teaching American History and American
Government. She was also academic advisor and cheerleader advisor. She
retired in 1994 and passed away one year later after a long battle with cancer.
Mrs. Chrien was known for her courage, hard work, and the positive influence
she had on our graduating seniors.
The deadline for the Thiele, Witenhafer and Chrien scholarships is April
30, 2008. In addition, students will apply for all three by using one
common application.


John Mack Memorial Scholarship
Opened to residents of Liverpool Township.
Deadline: April 30, 2008.


MTD Scholarship
Candidates must be residents of Liverpool Township and a student at Buckeye
High School. The student should be enrolling in a Bachelor’s Degree program
with preference given to engineering, computer science, business or other
technical fields. Value of the scholarship: $5000, broken down in the following
manner:
$1000 per year if the student is enrolled in a five-year engineering/technical
degree program;
$2000 the first year, $1000 per year for the next 3 years if enrolled in a fouryear
engineering/technical program.
Deadline: April 30.

Discount Drug Mart Pharmaceutical Scholarship
Scholarship criteria:
The scholarship is valued at $1000, the candidate must be a senior at Buckeye
High School and must have a 3.00 grade point average, the student must plan
a major in business (or a closely related field)
The candidate must be accepted at a college or university
This scholarship will be deposited with the Buckeye Schools Treasurer.
Payment will be made upon presentation of a tuition/fees bill to the Treasurer.
The candidate must respond to the following question with an essay (please
attach your typed response to the application). Why are you interested in the
Business field and what are your career goals once you have completed
your training?
Deadline: April 30, 2008.


The Valley City Citizenship Award
Was established by the Chamber of Commerce to be awarded to a Buckeye
High School senior. Candidates must reside in Liverpool Township and be
planning post-secondary education at an accredited college or university. The
award check will be payable to both the student and the institution. This
scholarship does not necessarily go to the individual with the highest grade
point average. It is awarded to that individual who best represents Buckeye
students, who participates in school functions and activities, and who is active
in community projects. It exemplifies that person willing to put forth extra
effort to help someone else or the community.
