Buckeye Board Approves Resolution of Necessity For Bond Issue

Proposed $80,000,000 Bond Issue Will Fulfill Facilities Master Plan

MEDINA, OH (December 15, 2022) — The Buckeye Local School District Board of Education approved a resolution of necessity for a bond issue to be placed on the May 2, 2023, ballot at its December 15 meeting. The proposed bond issue, in the amount of $80,000,000, would fulfill the district’s Facilities Master Plan.

The Board’s approval of the resolution of necessity is the first of two resolutions that must be passed for the district to move forward with the bond issue. The second resolution to proceed with the bond issue will be placed before the Board for a vote at its meeting scheduled for January 10, 2023.

“The district’s decision to pursue a bond issue stemmed from feedback received from our Buckeye community through an extensive engagement process beginning with the development of our Facilities Master Plan,” said Superintendent Harrison. “I am thankful to all of our staff, parents, and community members who were willing to get involved throughout the process and provide us with valuable insight along the way.”

The Facilities Master Plan, approved by the Board in November 2022, entails constructing, furnishing, and equipping a shared 7-12 building with related campus improvements. The Ohio Facilities Construction Commission (OFCC) notified the Buckeye Local School District that the state would pay 19% of the cost of the shared 7-12 building. Through the addition of a Locally Funded Initiative, discussed improvements to the Buckeye Local Schools campus include gymnasium space, a performing arts center, a stadium renovation and traffic flow improvements.

“We recognize that when it comes to educating our children, facilities matter,” said Buckeye Local Schools Superintendent Jeffrey Harrison. “We are confident that the new and renovated facilities outlined in the Facilities Master Plan will provide opportunities for 21st-century learning, meet the needs for growth and sustainability, and provide safety and security for our students and staff.”
